How It Works

It depends on what you’re ordering. If you’re ordering prescription medication, yes, it’s a requirement of State and Federal rules and regulations. In order to ensure your pet receives the proper treatment, we work with your prescriber to get a valid prescription. That said, we are a full-service pharmacy and also dispense over-the-counter medications that do not require a prescription. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!

You can simply ask your prescriber to contact us or we can contact them for you. Just reach out to us!

Sending your prescription to us is simple, and we have multiple options for your convenience: Email us at rx@mixlab.com or text/call us at (888) 901-4480. Ask your prescriber to send us a prescription directly, or let us know who your prescriber is so we can get the prescription authorized for you. If another pharmacy is currently filling your medication, let us know, and we’ll reach out to them to have the refills transferred. Once we receive your request, we’ll reach out to your prescriber to confirm the prescription.

Once we receive your prescription, our veterinary pharmacists will reach out to your prescriber to confirm the details. Once we’ve processed the prescription, you’ll receive a text to complete your online checkout and schedule your delivery. Our Care Team will reach out to you via phone or email in case you’re not able to text.

It's easy! Contact us with the medication's name, strength, form and quantity and we'll get back to you with a price estimate. 

Don't worry, saving payment information to your profile does not mean you will be automatically charged without notice. If you have signed up for our auto refill program, we'll reach out 24 hours before the next refill order is charged.

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy and FDA Compliance Policy Guidelines state that once medication leaves the pharmacy, we are legally unable to take it back. Please keep in mind that these policies are set in place to protect you and your animal from receiving potentially harmful substances. Compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications. Our compounding pharmacists mix different ingredients and customize the strength, form and flavor to meet your pet’s specific needs. Our pharmacy and staff are dedicated to serving only veterinary patients.

If you’re having trouble administering your pet’s medication, contact us. We’ll work with your veterinarian to find an alternative custom solution that your pet will take, and even enjoy! For companion animals, we have a flavor guarantee where we’ll replace the medication flavor within seven days for free.

If your pet isn’t feeling better or is having difficulty with the medication, contact your prescriber right away. They’ll work with us to navigate the next steps and find a solution.

Yes, we do. The ordering and delivery process for pet parents is the same for controlled substances. However, please note confirming the prescription with your prescriber could take a few days. Additionally, we may require a physical copy of the prescription and you may need to be present to sign for the delivery.

We make it easy to identify your medication's expiration date. Just look for the letters "BUD", which stands for beyond-use-date, on the bottle.

We specifically compound each medication for your pet's needs. Therefore, we do not recommend cutting / breaking your compounded chews as we cannot guarantee the strength in each half when this occurs.

For chew treats, the flavor options are Chicken, Bacon, Tuna, & Peanut Butter. For oral suspensions, we have even more options, from meaty flavors like Bacon, Chicken, Salmon or Turkey, to fruity flavors like Apple, Banana, Cherry and Passion Fruit. We also have a flavor guarantee for companion animals where, if your pet won't take a medication because of flavor palatability, we'll replace it with a new flavor, for free, within 7 days. We know it’s stressful when your pet isn’t feeling well, so we make it a top priority to deliver their medication quickly. When you check out, you can select your delivery window preference. Delivery is FREE: new prescriptions will arrive in 1-3 business days and refill orders are shipped to arrive in 3-5 business days (same-day available in New York City, Los Angeles and Southeast Florida, at an additional cost).

We love to delight our pets and their parents, especially during times of stress. Every pet med delivery comes with everything you need to administer the medication, instructions and a special toy for household pets.

If you're local to one of our labs in Los Angeles, New York or Southeast Florida, you can absolutely pick your order up instead of having it delivered. All you need to do is select the pickup option in the checkout screen, and we'll notify you when your order is ready!

Once your order has been prepared, purrfected and packaged, it will be scheduled for delivery and assigned tracking information. We'll send you a text with the tracking information when it's on the way!

Refill reminders are calculated based on the prescription days supply or dosing schedule. If the days supply is 30, you will be reminded about 20 days after you received your last refill of the medication to ensure that your refill arrives before you run out. If you are having issues with the refill reminder cadence, it is likely that the prescription information we have on file is outdated. Please don't hesitate to text us at 888-901-4480 and we'd be happy to help!

For qualifying orders, our auto refill program ensures your animal never runs out of medication, plus, you'll get 5% off each refill! Once you sign up, your refills will begin arriving on a set cadence depending on your prescription's days supply. Don't worry, we always reach out before charging your card and starting on the order. If you ever need to modify or cancel an order, just respond to the alert within 24 hours of receiving it. We'll notify you once your prescription runs out of refills, and once the new prescription is received, just turn on auto-refill again to start saving!

To qualify for auto refills, your prescription must have enough refills available to accommodate a repeating order. Prescriptions with short therapeutic windows or varying dose schedules, along with some controlled medications are not eligible. Contact us if you have any questions!

To sign up, simply select the "auto refill" option when confirming your order through our secure checkout link. If a Mixlab care specialist is assisting you with your order, all you need to do is ask them to turn on auto refills for your prescription, ensure your saved contact & payment information is up to date, and you're good to go! We'll remind you when it's time to expect your next refill.

When your prescriber writes your animal's prescription, they specifically outline the dosing schedule and expected days supply. Our auto refill program calculates when you will run out of medication based on this information. To change your auto refill schedule, we will need an updated prescription from your veterinarian with the correct days supply and dosing schedule. It is normal to have a small amount of medication left over when your next refill arrives; after all, we aim to deliver before you run out so you never have to worry about missing a dose!

Absolutely! You can modify or cancel an order as long as payment has not yet been processed. We will alert you 24 hours before payment is processed and your order is started. All you need to do is respond within 24 hours and we will take care of your request.

We aim to deliver your next refill before you completely run out, so it is normal to have a few days worth of medication left when your next refill arrives. If your prescription hasn't changed, you should always use the medication in the order you received it. If you ever need to turn off auto refill or skip a delivery, just let us know!

If you order two or more of the same qualifying prescription for the same animal at the same time, you will receive a 20% discount.
